President George Bush met with Christian Golczynski, son of fallen Marine Staff Sgt. Marc Golczynski, in the Oval Office, praising the dedication of his father. A fund raising event will be held at Bonefish Grill in Murfreesboro to benefit the boy's Trust Fund on June 30.

Though nothing can replace his father, people of middle Tennessee are doing something to provide for Christian Golczynski, son of the late Marine Staff Sgt. Marc Golczynski, who lost his life in combat with Iraqi insurgents on March 27.

He was laid to rest in Bedford County with a hero's funeral in Wheel.

According to Mike Goodloe of Murfreesboro, a friend of the fallen Marine, Bonefish Grill in Murfreesboro will host a walk and luncheon on June 30 to honor Golczynski and his sacrifice, and to raise funds for his son.

"The proceeds, 100 percent of the restaurant tickets and other money raised, will go to Christian Golczynski's trust fund that has been set up for his education," said Goodloe. "We have a walk registration at 7 a.m., with the walk starting at 9 a.m. Donations at the walk are suggested and a $15 donation will get you a commemorative T-shirt."

Goodloe explained the trust fund was established in May through Pinnacle National Bank.

"Donations can be made to the trust fund at any time," he said. "The envelope should be marked to the attention of Rodney Barrett for the fund. A donation can be made at any branch of the bank though it was established at the Murfreesboro main office."

During the Memorial Day weekend, the eight-year-old son of Golczynski met with President Bush in Oval Office, where he was presented with a bracelet bearing his father's name.

Five families who lost members of the armed forces met with the president before traveling with him to Arlington National Cemetery, where Bush placed a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a traditional Memorial Day event.

While the planned Murfreesboro event may have a lower profile, it is a way for the community to give something to the family.

"We are excited to be able to give back to the family in this way," Goodloe said. "The family is from Murfreesboro, though Christian is not living here now. As a friend, I'm glad we can do this."

Christian Golczynski is living with his mother and relatives.

"Lunch will be served from 11-2 at Bonefish Grill Murfreesboro," said Goodloe. "Tickets for lunch are limited and the cost is $30. We will have a limited menu on that day, and reservations are required."

The restaurant is located at 505 N. Thompson Lane. According to Goodloe, the day will include a silent auction during the walk and luncheon. Items will also be for sale to help raise funds.
