Though the Fair opens at 9 a.m., the first mule event doesn't begin until 1 p.m. New to the Fair this year is the Mule Pulling but there are all sorts of divisions of competition represented, from large to small, pulling to pretty.
Sixteen classes in all will be on tap for mule enthusiasts. The classes include Best Matched Pair, Halter, Youth and Adult Driving, Youth and Adult In-Hand Jumping, Coon Jumping, Youth and Adult In-Hand Trail and, last but not least, a Panty Race. (The panty goes on the donkey, not the exhibitor.)
According to Lydia Spears, president of the TN Donkey ASSociation, "The Panty Race is always a crowd pleaser and lots of fun for the exhibitors; however, the donkeys probably question the sanity of humans during this contest."
The miniature donkey show will also be held during the events. These tiny renditions of the "big guys" have no concept that they are any different from their larger cohorts, according to enthusiasts present for the Great Celebration Mule and Donkey Show held earlier this month.
Other events included on Saturday include the Home Ec/Ag exhibits available for the public to view. There will also be an antique tractor display and pull beginning at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. respectively.
At 5 p.m. Saturday, the main Mule Show will get underway with promised excitement for spectators.
"Members of the Tennessee Donkey ASSociation are very happy to support this show," said Spears, "and truly appreciate the Bedford County Fair Board for allowing the TDA to show people what donkeys can do."
Tickets for the event are available at the Fair admission gate.
