Community administered a good old-fashioned behind-the-woodshed spanking to Middle Tennessee Christian 26-24, 25-14, 22-25, 25-15 in a District 11-A/AA volleyball match Thursday.
Viqueen coach Allison Layne was pleased with the intensive effort put forth by her team (5-3, 5-2).
"That is the best that we have struck the ball in a long time," Layne said. "I am still a little bit concerned with another slow start but the girls did a good job of picking up the pace and applying pressure to their defense after that."
The Lady Cougars played well in the first game and managed to lead 24-22 before Erica Keele and Amy Nesius took over the service line and finished it out to take command.
The Viqueens turned it up a notch, overpowering the visitors by 11 points in the second game before Layne emptied her bench for the third game.
MTC managed to defeat the mostly eighth and ninth graders 22-25 but not without a fight as the youngsters managed to lead late in the game.
Tied 6-6 in the fourth game, Keele reeled off eight straight points as the southpaw placed her offerings in perfect areas of the visiting team's defense with just enough spin to make them difficult to control.
The Viqueens, who were never challenged after her streak, went on to an easy victory in the finale.
"I was really pleased with some of our younger players that came in and stepped up their play tonight and my veterans did exactly what is expected of them," Layne said. "It was a good win at a good time for the girls."
Community travels to Culleoka for a match tonight at 6.
