Feet regain their winning groove

Wednesday, January 16, 2008

Consider the Webb Feet refocused, recharged and re-energized.

After its only loss of the season last Friday in overtime to county rival Community, the Webb squad looked like a well-oiled machine Tuesday night as it cruised past St. Andrew's-Sewanee 77-42 in Bell Buckle.

"That's as good of offense as we have played," Feet coach Jeff Mitchell said. "If you take the fourth quarter of the Community game when we scored 24 points plus this game, that is as good of offense as we've played in two years by far. We shot it well, played hard and played loose.

"I give a lot of credit to our kids for following the scouting report on their guys. They do a good job at St. Andrew's and they are having some injury issues right now, but that will be a completely different team in February."

The home team erupted out of the gates to a 13-4 advantage just three minutes into the game and didn't let up. Using a pair of treys by sophomore Logan Burchett, Webb (11-1) expanded its early edge to 26-10 after just one period.

The Feet's suffocating defense continued to force turnover after turnover, and easy baskets came in bunches during the second quarter. A quick 10-0 spurt to open the frame eventually led to an insurmountable 46-14 lead by the half.

"We felt real good about how we ran the floor and that created some opportunities with good spacing, which led to easier shots in transition," Mitchell said. "We just finished and, when you do that, it makes everything look better."

Webb emptied the bench in the final half and still managed to outscore the Mountain Lions 31-18.

"Our kids were very coachable tonight after that loss to Community, but I thought it was a very mature effort and I'm proud of our guys," Mitchell concluded.

Hunter Foutch topped the scoring chart for the winners with a game-high 19, while Logan Burchett tacked on another 15.

SAS was led by Blaine Mitchell's 13 tallies.

Webb travels east to the foothills of the Smoky Mountains this weekend, battling King's Academy on Friday and then Berean Christian on Saturday.
