The Vikings, who did not score until Wylder Norris hit a short jumper with 40 ticks left, outshot the visitors by a 3-to-1 margin but saw the ball rim out time and time again with most attempts from less than 3 feet out.
The second quarter was more entertaining on offense as Justin Stallings went to work on the inside, posting seven points to pull Community (10-9, 4-6 9-A) within 20-16 at intermission.
"We played the game pretty well in the first half though we continue to miss easy shots on way too frequent a basis," Community coach Jace Bryant said. "The second half is a whole 'nother story that I simply have no plausible explanation for.
"We totally and completely shut down in the third quarter and about got run out of the gym."
Kendall Knight and Nick Schnapp combined for 15 points and Kevin Anglin drained a 3-pointer to lead the Rockets (8-15, 4-6) to a 41-24 lead as the stunned partisan crowd looked on in disbelief.
"We went from a four-point game to a 26-point loss just like that," Bryant said. "I told the kids in the locker room after the game that I wasn't upset with them over the results.
"Forrest played harder than we did and beat us in every facet of the game in the second half.
"What it really boils down to is that I have to do a better job of coaching these guys. I can't coach effort, but I can control who is on the court and base it on who is giving 100 percent and placing us in a position to win ballgames. We will be assessing that over the next few days."
Schnapp notched 17 points as the high scorer for the night, while Knight added 14 for the Rockets.
Josh Hull scored six points in the fourth quarter to bump his total to 10 and lead the Vikings.
The Community offensive drought included some collateral damage at the free-throw line as well as they managed a miserable 3-of-15.
Community welcomes Cascade on Friday night as they continue district action.
