Lady Feet trio sparks win

Saturday, February 2, 2008
Three Lady Feet reached double figures in the scoring column as Webb edged past David Brainerd 50-48.

Zola Quao headed up the winners' scoring charge with 17 points. Callie Vaughn followed with 14. Elizabeth Lawrence contributed 12.

After trailing 18-9 at the end of the first quarter, the Wildcats carried a 29-28 upper hand into intermission before the Bell Buckle bunch outscored their hosts 9-4 in the third quarter.

"We had foul trouble the whole game and really were fortunate to hang on and win," Webb coach Jeff Mitchell said.

The Lady Feet (8-12) were 21-36 from the free-throw line.

Natalie North led all scorers with 23 for Brainerd. Ashley Ferrell had 13.

Webb 62, David Brainerd 49 (B): The Feet bounced back after having their four-game win streak snapped on Tuesday by Cascade by outscoring the Wildcats 34-24 in the second half.

"We really did a good job in our three-quarter court defense," Mitchell said.

Hunter Foutch poured in 18 points for Webb (17-3). Jordan Burchett netted 14 and Will Murphy 11.

"Jordan Foutch came in and gave us a boost," Mitchell said. "He played an excellent game off the bench."

The Feet were up 17-13 in the opening frame, only to see that advantage trimmed to 28-25 by halftime.

"David Brainerd kept coming. We just never could put them away," said Mitchell, whose team sank 17-of-23 free throws.

Jalen Meecham's 19 points and Max Archey's 14 led Brainerd.
