Thieves return to pick up stolen tools

Friday, February 8, 2008

Many tools stolen from an outbuilding at a Midland Road home in Shelbyville were left a short distance away near Bedford County Agriculture Center for later retrieval, police say.

The tools -- including saws, a drill, truck toolbox, and speakers -- had been taken overnight Tuesday from an outbuilding behind a rental home owned by Marion Whitaker.

A caller from the Ag Center reported seeing two men, described only as white, get out of an Oldsmobile and pick up a white duffle bag from a nearby earthen bank later Wednesday. The men left with the bag when they realized they were being watched, police said.

An officer checked the bank and found another duffle bag filled with many of the stolen items.

Drug charge

Marijuana was found in a car after an officer requested a search following a traffic stop Wednesday night.

Justin Dale Blanton, 18, Orchard Lane, Bell Buckle, was allegedly clocked at 44 mph in a 30 mph zone on Bethany Lane by Officer Waymond Boyd.

Marijuana was found under the driver's seat following the stop on Coney Island Road, Boyd said.

Blanton was charged with simple possession. He posted $500 bond at Bedford County Jail.
