Chris Brown has announced his candidacy for the 62nd District state representative seat in the Aug. 7 Republican primary.

Brown, a Bedford County native, is a self-employed owner-operator truck driver leased to Nationwide Express in Shelbyville and holds a paralegal degree. He has worked with attorneys and private investigators in the past.

He is a veteran of the U.S. Army and served several non-consecutive enlistments over a 19-year period, including service during Operation Desert Shield / Desert Storm. He has been a military police officer, a combat engineer, worked with the Judge Adjutant General's office and worked in chemical decontamination. He received several humanitarian awards during his service.

He is a member of Bedford County Emergency Management Agency and of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association. He is a member of the Highway Watch program, a homeland security initiative.

He was the Republican nominee for Bedford County Sheriff in 2006.

He is married to Judy Maynard Brown and he has three step-children, with a grandchild expected. He and Mrs. Brown attend First Church of the Nazarene.

"Being raised in the Nazarene faith, by the King James Version Bible, I was taught by the pastors right from wrong in the teachings of the Christian faith of Christ," he said. "If it wasn't for the rights of these pastors to teach from the Bible, I would not have learned the importance of God in everyday life and decision making for myself and others."

He said he believes in the right to life, in hard work and in helping his fellow man.

The 62nd District includes all of Bedford and parts of Lincoln and Rutherford counties.

i dont think we should put to much stock in a mans haircut. i mean, our current representitives have nice hair and they have yet to do anything really helpful for us. i think chris worries more about the people than current hairstyles.

You are not supposed to judge people by the way they look but by the way they act and treat other people. This man received "several humanitarian awards" have anyone of you?

If that first impression is important to him, then the hair needs to at least be shaped up. Looks a little wild!

Looks are not what you are after in a goverment offical, honsety, and the ablity to do the job the people put you in office to do is worth more than a good haircut anyday!

Mr. Clinton had nice haircut, but what a disgrace he made to the office!

Good luck to you Mr. Brown. Long hair, short hair or no hair I will listen to your views and consider you for my vote!

I'd suggest a good haircut if he is seriously considering public office!
