The facility will be located at the corner of Eagle Boulevard and Learning Way, according to drawings submitted to the Shelbyville Municipal Planning Commission.
DREMC is requesting site plan approval for the project and will make the request Thursday during this month's meeting of the Planning Commission.
The "L" shaped administrative headquarters would be located directly behind the current facility. According to director of operations Michael Watson, the need for the building was determined two years ago.
"When we were turning closets into offices, we knew we needed more space," he said.
Watson said that DREMC has been in the current building for 40 years and in that time, their membership has tripled.
Construction is slated to begin in May and DREMC hopes to move into the facility by Thanksgiving. The building will hold offices for 11 people in accounting and administration.
The current building will be kept "as is," freeing up space for current employees involved in operations, engineering member services and the Shelbyville district office.

Dear Fellow DREMC electrified duckies, Hand It Over! I said hand It Over! Ole kilowatt wants all your hard earned Money. Yes that's right and what kW wants kW gets because coop's R us rules. I am getting sick and tired of you e_coop members whining about your rising electric bills. I work my amps off for you and all I here is we can't pay our electric bill. Oh what are we going to do? My light bills is higher than my explosive mortgage payments. Well you could get another job and cut back on everything. Haven't you seen that wonderful TVA TV commercial where they give advice on cutting back. You know the one where TVA says instead of going to the main feature at a Theater you should go to the cheaper matinee. You should also use food coupons and buy items on sell. My favorite part of this commercial is where TVA wants You to Eat Boloney instead of a higher cut of meat. Boy now tell me TVA don't care about you. I mean isn't this some kind of life changing advice don't u know.
Some folks say that monopoly electric cooperatives inside the TVA wall operates as a defacto. Some electric utilities experts claim cooperatives are not a good business model for an electric company because they are very inefficient. They claim the vertically integrated to many chiefs business structure of a governors pet electric co-op sucks. Personally I do admit the administrators do over work their employees and they really should pay their linemen and other hazardous workers more.
Well Ole Kilowatt going to go out here and spin some electric meters. I'm spinning yours right now hee, hee, hee, ha,ha, Bla haha
Who is the contractor, has it been bid yet
Amen.
That must explain for the increase in electric bills and another supposed rate hike from TVA in April . . .
