Wanamaker no-hits Webb

Wednesday, March 12, 2008

Webb ran into a brick wall in their first softball game of the season. Boyd Christian's Cassie Wanamaker no-hit the Lady Feet in a 5-0 victory in McMinnville on Tuesday.

The right-hander struck out nine and walked four in five innings pitched.

"We were not able to hit the ball," Webb coach James Garcia said. "We're still pretty young and working on some things, but we didn't put the ball in play at all. Cassie Wanamaker is a pretty good pitcher for Boyd, but we've still got to make them field the ball and make them make plays."

Losing pitcher Savannah Scarlett whiffed three and issued five free passes.

Boyd Christian 12, Webb 1:The Lady Broncos took advantage of five defensive miscues to upend the Lady Feet in four innings.

Wanamaker was on target again, fanning eight while walking but a pair.

"We didn't make a lot of mental errors, which is kind of what I was looking for," Garcia said. "We did get a little sloppy in the second game.

"We've just got to work a little harder and keep hacking away."

Scarlett lasted 2 2/3. She struck out two and walked four.
