The Cascade High School Band will also perform, both on its own and in tandem with the symphony. Motlow College Jazz Band will again provide pre-concert and intermission entertainment, and local National Guard members will provide a color guard during the National Anthem at the beginning of the concert.
Kelly Corcoran, the symphony's associate conductor, will lead the orchestra.
The annual concert is casual dress and intended to be family-friendly, with children and students admitted free of charge. Because the concert itself is made possible by sponsors, all ticket proceeds benefit Bedford County Arts Council.
Regions Bank is the principal sponsor of the Nashville Symphony's community concerts. The Celebration, the Arts Council and Economy Pen and Pencil Company are also sponsors of the Shelbyville concert.
This year's symphony program will run the gamut from Brahms to the Beatles. The emphasis is on accessible works -- works that can be enjoyed by anyone, whether or not they're familiar with classical music. In some cases, they're melodies that listeners may recognize from movies, television or even advertising campaigns.
Last year's concert featured the Community High School band, a tremendously well-received program. Organizers are now rotating through the three local high schools.
The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with an art show and a half-hour "pre-concert" featuring the Motlow jazz band. During this period, those attending are welcome to bring a picnic supper.
The concert proper will begin at 7 p.m. The Cascade band will perform on its own just before intermission, and then will rejoin the symphony for a joint performance of the grand finale.
Tickets for the concert will go on sale next month at Regions Bank locations. Adult general admission will be $5; box seats will be $10 each in quantities of 5, 6 or 8 and will be available only at the Elm Street location.
