Seven guns taken in home burglary

Tuesday, March 25, 2008

Two residences were entered over the weekend in Bedford County.

*Seven guns which had belonged to the grandfather of Greg Graham were taken from Graham's home on Thompson Creek Road during the day Sunday.

The guns were listed as a Glock 19.9mm, 1980 SKS Bayonet 7.62mm, a .22 Marlin, a .22 Mossberg, a .22 Magnum, a Shadow 1000 pellet gun and a S&W .38 caliber revolver.

All had been in a safe, Graham told Deputy Mike Henry of the Bedford County Sheriff's Dept.

A door was pried to gain entry.

*A computer system, amplifier and two subwoofers were stolen from the home of Jeremy Erwin, Warners Bridge Road, between 2-7:50 p.m. Friday, BCSD Cpl. Kent Jacobs said.

Entry was gained by kicking a door.

Car, foot chase

A suspect was captured following a vehicle and foot chase lasting several hours Monday afternoon northwest of Shelbyville.

Aaron Churchwell, 29, of Nashville was taken into custody on El Bethel Road several hours after eluding a Bedford County deputy attempting to make a traffic stop.

Deputy Jason Freeman said Churchwell had been charged earlier this year by the 17th Judicial Drug Task Force with possession of a large amount of crack cocaine.

"He took off, nearly missing me by inches," Freeman said. "He wrecked on Warners Bridge Road at Troupe Road. We followed him on foot to Temple Ford Lane but never found him there."

Authorities received a telephone call that Churchwell could be found at the El Bethel Road location.

Churchwell was charged with aggravated assault, felony evading arrest, evading on foot, reckless endangerment and second offense driving on a suspended license.

Costly theft

A thief who stole a wallet belonging to speech teacher Miriam Belanger at Southside School later made 15 purchases totaling nearly $3,000 with a debit card, police say.

Belanger told police she suspects the wallet was stolen during parent-teacher meetings late Thursday afternoon. A suspect, based on school security video, has been named to police.

The wallet was found Saturday in an outside trash can at the Kangaroo convenience store on North Main Street.

Businesses entered

Two burglaries have been reported at Shelbyville businesses.

*An estimated $80 in rolled quarters were stolen overnight Friday from David's Bar, Madison Street.

Glass was broken in a door to gain entry, police said.

*Thursday's deposit money from Tan This Tanning Salon, North Main Street, was taken between closing time Thursday and Friday.

Drug charges

Police said they found marijuana in a vehicle following a traffic stop Friday y night on South Cannon Boulevard.

Officer David Curley filed a report indicating he stopped a Jeep driven by Daphne Lynn McCormick, 35, of Petersburg for allegedly following another vehicle too closely at 58 mph in a 45 mph zone.

A passenger, Howard Keith Neeley, 36, of Ardmore, Tenn., smelled strongly of marijuana, Curley said, and eventually said some could be found in the Jeep. Officers found a small, partially burnt marijuana cigarette and charged Neeley with possession of a schedule VI drug and public intoxication.

McCormick, who told police she had been drinking for two and a half hours at a nearby bar, was charged with first offense DUI, violation of the implied consent law and speeding.

*A man who allegedly tried to discard marijuana as he left a North Main Street building late Saturday night was charged accordingly.

Thomas Allen Burgess, 23, Hickory Drive, had three small bags containing a total of 16.98 grams of marijuana and allegedly attempted to pass himself off as someone else, police said.

Burgess, who police said later admitted his real name and to dropping the marijuana, faces charges of possession of a schedule VI drug and violation of probation.

Suspect captured

Police captured a DUI suspect following a short foot chase Sunday night.

Bill Junior Freeman, 42, U.S. 41-A South, was found hiding under a van at Madison Street Trailer Park by Officer Josh Leverette.

Freeman was driving "erratically" with headlights in a vehicle producing large amounts of engine smoke on Madison Street, Leverette said.

As Leverette attempted to stop the car, Freeman allegedly struck a curb, puncturing a tire, before attempting to flee.

Freeman, who was charged with DUI, claimed he had been not driving the car.

Records indicate Freeman has been declared a habitual traffic offender by the state and has three prior DUI convictions and four convictions for driving on a revoked license, Leverette said.

One of the females listed has been in the jail intake 11 times in less than one and a half yrs. Talk about a Habitual Offender!

Some of these have already been submitted in prior additions as jail intake. I think they may have re-printed some since the charges are indentitical to earlier print.. (within the past week) There is one in this one that was very disappointing to me. I hope he gets his life straightened out soon for the sake of his daughter...

Folks, this Juan Baltazar Baltazar is apparently not who you are thinking of. Yes, his is a popular name but nowehere near as popular as the majority of those that you see in the blotter and not just Hispanics. I see no fewer than five names in today's blotter alone that probably could be permanently pasted in intake list and simply edited out if they did not appear on the intake list for that day. It sure would be easier than continually typing their names each time (FREQUENTLY) they appear there. Juan is a decent man, who simply likes to drink and apparently cannot control himself afterwards. I am, by no means, defending him for his alleged drinking and driving charge, but come on leave the racial innuendos out of this. We are simply falling into the hands of those that would have us believe that we are no different than our ancestors in thoughts of anyone of a diferrent shade than us. That perpetuates the myth and fuels the fire that makes them say such things. So as my parents and grandparents always taught me, "If you don't have anything nice to say, then do not say a thing!"

I can't figure out why I continually see Juan Baltazar Baltazar being arrested for moving violations, etc! Shouldn't he have gone to prison by now? Don't we have some kind of habitual offender law? I mean really!
