The junior southpaw twirled his first no-hitter to lead the visiting Champions to a 9-0 victory over District 9-A rival Eagleville. He struck out 10 and walked five in seven innings pitched.
"(Brown's) fastball had a lot of zip on it today," Cascade coach Chris Parker said. "He threw three pitches for strikes, kept the hitters really off balance.
"Himself and his teammates played really good defense. We just had two little balls off the end of the bat that we couldn't handle cleanly that led to errors."
Brown (3-0) worked in a fastball, a curveball and even a knuckleball to keep hitters guessing and their knees buckling.
Tyler Bowen singled twice, tripled, doubled and drove in four runs as part of the Champion stick squad that smacked 10 hits total. Corey Mullins maintained a hot bat as well, cranking out two doubles and a single en route to two RBIs.
Cascade (7-1, 4-0 9-A) jumped on top 2-0 in the first inning as MoMo Stewart walked and came around to score on a Mullins double. Mullins then touched home on a groundout by Kyle Clanton.
G.J. Strunk took the loss for the Eagles.
The Orange and Black now turn their attention to the Warrior Classic. It will be their fifth year in a row in what Parker calls "the biggest tournament in the southeast."
"We want to get better for district games. The most important thing is to get all of our pitchers some work and get some hitters some at-bats," he said.
The Bedford County kids open up with a game against Blackman at their place in Murfreesboro on Thursday night at 6:30 before facing Harriman at Shelbyville Central on Friday at 4:30.
"We're going to play some tough competition," Parker said. "We want to have a good showing and show the rest of the baseball community that we can compete on any level."
With four games in three days on the agenda and after their top two arms tossed over 100 pitches this week already, the Champs will have to go deep into their pitching staff. Jay Bishop, Blake Harvey, Zack Hill, Chase Nunley and Kyle Saylor will follow Justin Bryant and Kyle Clanton with mound time.
"We're going to try to show a lot of the teams some different looks," Parker said. "We're going to go with our Nos. 3 and 4 starters and see how far they can go. Hopefully they can push Brown and Stewart for innings pitched in district games."
