A thief took the grand tour of rural convenience stores west of Shelbyville overnight Wednesday, getting away with merchandise from two locations.

*The cash register, containing an undisclosed amount of money, was stolen shortly before midnight at Pit Stop Market, Highway 64 West.

Deputies responded following a alarm about 11:30 p.m. to find glass broken in the drive-through window, through which the market was apparently entered, a report by Cpl. Kent Jacobs said.

*An alarm sounded moments later at Missy's Bedford Market, about three miles east of Pit Stop on Highway 64.

A store employee told Deputy Melvin Neeley a few cigars were taken and a door was destroyed to gain entry.

*An unsuccessful attempt was made to break into Bee Line Market, Warners Bridge Road.

Owner David Sadler said he arrived at 4:30 a.m. Thursday to find the door knob missing and damage from what Jacobs described as a heavy object or hammer.

Big haul

A trailer containing 36 mattresses was hooked to a truck without authorization and driven away from Corsicana Bedding, Cedar King Road, overnight Wednesday.

Total value of the mattresses is $7,000, a company official told police.

Team effort

Police say one man distracted a clerk while another walked out of Golden Gallon, Madison Street, with six bags of cedar firewood Thursday night.

Jeff Petty, 40, Railroad Avenue, allegedly left with the wood while another man, who is not named in the police report, asked a clerk about using a telephone as he purchased a beer and two bags of wood.

Petty is charged with theft of property.

Saws stolen

Four Stihl chain saws belonging to Wolf Tree Experts were stolen from a bucket truck behind Duck River Electric Membership Corp., Madison Street, between March 21 and Thursday, police said.

No signs of forced entry were found, according to Officer Josh Leverette's report.

Other thefts and burglaries reported to area authorities:

*Werner and Cooper ladders, wheelbarrows, used storm doors, storm windows, plastic and metal trash cans were taken from the warehouse at R.L. Patterson Hardware, East Lane Street, between March 18 and Thursday.

*A 1994 Ford Tempo which had been left at Lyons Body Shop, East Lane Street, for several months is missing.

The car's owner, Nancy Lyons, reported the theft Thursday.

Ray Lyons, owner of the body shop, said he had checked area scrap metal yards for the car without success.

*Prescription drugs, two cigarette lighters and a Case pocket knife were stolen from a car owned by Troy Bennett, Bedford Manor Apartments, outside his home Wednesday night.

Jail intake

The following persons were arrested since Thursday by the Bedford County Sheriff's Department, Shelbyville Police Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol or 17th Judicial District Drug Task Force and processed through Bedford County Jail. They are only charged; guilt or innocence will be determined by the courts.

Good Job to our local Law Enforcement!

You cannot unconvince me that having all these drug rehab places, especially centered on Railroad Ave, next to schools, doesn't contribute to and attract these druggy thugs. These druggy thugs, human debris influence locals that otherwise would not have the wher-with all to deal and steal. I mean Shelbyville is BAD. I am glad for Sheriff Boyce to be doing what he is doing, but I really am fearing for me and what I own daily and nightly. I don't shop here so I don't get robbed. I avoid every place in town for the stanks are everywhere. There has to be a serious, serious attitude change. I loved this place at one time, but having lived in LA (CA) I can say that every corner is looking more and more like south central. And I am not exaggerating.

I agree with double t!!! I too am from Los Angeles orginally, and moved here to find peace and safety. I thought of Shelbyville as a haven. But now it is a ghetto! It is disgusting!! I had to get a gun permit just to feel safe enough to drive through the darn place!!

I personally do not know any of these people in this log, however, I do know that it is innocent until proven guilty. It seems many of you are judging, trying and convicting them all at once. If it were up to you we would not need judges, or courts. Bad things happen to good people and EVERYONE makes mistakes, including you.

hhhmmm, if you are talking about the one you said used to be a cop, that is what makes some people have little respect for the law. It seems it is more and more common for cops, to be the source of some crimes committed. In addition our legal and justice system has a tendency of treating people differently based on who they are or who they know! While one may get the book thrown at them for something that actually would not be a criminal matter, but rather should of been civil; another intentional lawbreaker is slapped on the hand. The only difference between the two is who they knew.

and by the way hhhmmm I wish I was still in Jr. High School. However, I have not been in school for 28 years, until recently when I started college. So the next time you want to jump to conclusions to judge me based on my name, think first. You may not always be right. Maybe I have this name so that I do not have to age. You are only as old as you feel, thank you very much!!!!

Didn't Jeff Petty used to be a cop? If ya can't beat em, join em I guess.

Wouldn't shock me, haven't met one yet that isn't crooked in some way or taking pay offs. BTW, I don't think the rehab centers are all that bad, people are trying to get help for their addictions. Should we just toss addicts on an island all their own because they made decisions? And when I was in High School the biggest drug dealer was...TADA....A COP..the D.A.R.E. officer at that.

And you are right Bratgirl, in this town it's about who you know, what your last name is, or what you have. I have seen it many times and have a little to zero respect for the "cops" (and I use the term lightly) in this town, they walk around like they are so big and bad, well I say, let's drop their butts in the middle of, oh say, the Bronx and watch them run like the little wussies they are. They couldn't handle the job in a big city, they are nothing more than boys playing cops and robbers. I find them all laughable, at best.
