A man arrested on drug charges Friday night was attempting to flee from a home at which surveillance was being set up, according to the director of the 17th Judicial District Drug Task Force.

Aaron Churchwell, 29, of Nashville was stopped by a Bedford County deputy after leaving a house on Brown Lane, DTF Director Timothy R. Lane said.

Surveillance had been initiated earlier Friday evening at 104 W. Highland St., where DTF agents believed crack cocaine was being distributed, Lane said.

Lavon Denise Ransom, 31, listed in jail records as a resident of 106 W. Highland, was charged with possession of a schedule II drug after 7 grams of crack cocaine was found in her possession, DTF Assistant Director Timothy J. Miller said.

The arrest led DTF, Bedford County Sheriff's Department and Shelbyville Police Department officers to the Brown Lane residence from which Churchwell allegedly fled along with two females.

Upon arrest, Churchwell was found to be in possession of suspected Ecstasy tablets. A plastic bag containing approximately 8 ounces of crack and cocaine and $5,100 in suspected illegal drug proceeds was found by Miller along the route Churchwell's car had traveled, Lane said.

A consensual search of the Brown Lane home resulted in the seizure of a loaded 9mm pistol and set of digital scales, according to Lane, and an additional 20 grams of cocaine were seized by the DTF after being found on Churchwell as he was being booked into Bedford County Jail.

The cocaine seized during the investigation has an estimated street value of $12,500, Lane said.

The arrest was Churchwell's second within a week. He was captured Monday night of last week after eluding officers following an attempted traffic stop.

Churchwell was on parole following a previous felony drug conviction, Lane said.
