The clinic, which provides medical care to the working uninsured, announced its annual fundraiser event, "It's In The Bag (Goes Country)," will be held April 18 at the Blue Ribbon Circle.
Dwana Pusser-Garrison, daughter of the late McNairy County sheriff, Buford Pusser, will be the guest speaker.
The movie "Walking Tall" is an account of Buford Pusser's life while he was sheriff in McNairy County. Pusser is famous for his efforts to clean up his county of illegal gambling, prostitution, drugs and other illegal activity.
Pusser-Garrison last week dropped her bid to run for the State House seat being vacated by Rep. Randy Rinks, D-Savannah. She told The Jackson Sun that health reasons led her to withdraw.
"We are excited Dwana Pusser-Garrison is coming and speaking at our fundraiser," said Inda Browning on behalf of the Community Clinic, 844 Union St. "Anyone who has ever seen the movie Walking Tall would be very interested in knowing what is was like to be the daughter of such a brave man wasn't afraid to stand on his morals for what he believed was right. He was a Tennessee legend and continues to be so even after his death."
The fundraiser will begin at 5 p.m. and includes a silent auction which ends at 7. A catfish and barbecue buffet dinner will be served at 6:00. Dress is casual and all are welcome.
Sheriff Pusser's daughter, who it is hoped will attract a large crowd of people, is speaking without charge.
"Dwana has MS and understands how important medical care is," said Browning. "She is speaking free of charge because she thinks the Community Clinic of Shelbyville and Bedford County is providing such a wonderful service to those who cannot afford insurance or are not offered insurance at their place of employment."
Tickets are $20 and may be purchased at City Hall, Peoples Bank, the Community Clinic or from Community Clinic board members or JoAnn Holland.
