Forrest steamrolls over Community

Tuesday, April 8, 2008

Bedford County was blessed with beautiful baseball weather Monday and teams from all across the area took advantage of their good fortune to work out the kinks from their game that had set in during the recent storms.

Some teams took more advantage of the opportunity than others as Forrest (6-6, 2-2 9-A) rolled into Unionville to take on the Vikings in a District 9-A matchup and left with a 14-0 win in five innings.

The Rockets sent 10 men to the plate in the first and scored five unearned runs on consecutive hits by Colin Henson, Micah Phifer, and Alex Ontiveras, sandwiched around three Community (2-3-1, 2-3) errors and two walks.

"If you can't catch the ball you are not going to win very many games," Viking coach Josh Burrahm said. "We simply are not making even the most fundamental plays in games."

Sophomore Lance Paschal started on the mound and was victimized by seven errors by his defense that prolonged several innings after he made the pitches to get his team off of the field with minimal damage by the opposing offense.

Dustin White relieved in the fifth and limited the visitors to just one hit in his stint. He walked one, struck out one and allowed one unearned run.

Forrest left-hander Jacob Davis limited Community to just two hits in the game by Paschal who sent one into the left centerfield gap for a double in the first inning and a single by Chris West in their final at-bat.

The Rockets connected for two homeruns in the contest by Kristian Albarron and Phifer and finished with a total of eight hits to account for six earned runs while playing flawless defense.

The same two teams hook up again today in Chapel Hill at 5.
