Dixie Parker has announced that she will run for re-election to the Bedford County School Board in District 1.

Parker, a Bedford County native, has lived in Bell Buckle all her life. She is a 1963 graduate of Bell Buckle High School, completed LPN training through the Bedford County school system in 1967 and later attended Middle Tennessee State University.

She is married to George Thomas Parker and is the mother of two sons, Kenny and David Parker, both educators in the Bedford County School System. She has five grandchildren.

Parker has been employed in the Bedford County Clerk's office for the past 17 years. She is a 1996 graduate of Leadership Bedford and later served on the program's board of directors. She has also served on the Bedford County Senior Citizens board, and served as the chair of Bedford County Bicentennial Organizing Committee. She is an active member of the Shelby Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and has served DAR at the state level for the past six years. She is a member of the Bell Buckle First Baptist Church.

"It has been my privilege working with the other board members while serving as the District 1 School Board member for the past three and a half years," Parker said. "During this time many accomplishments have been made in our district as well as the other districts of Bedford County. I have always been dedicated to the education and welfare of our children. I feel the future is in the hands of our children and education is the key to opening the door for their success.

"If reelected, I pledge to continue to work diligently to assist in providing the best education, safety, and facilities possible for the students of Bedford County."

LOL...my point exactly, as Wikipedia describes the pop culture character from the animated series "Family Guy", quoted as "A monkey that lives in Chris's closet and frequently gestures toward him in a threatening manner. Chris tries to tell his family about the existence of the Evil Monkey but, so far, only Stewie believes him. In the show's universe, the monkey was not originally evil, but became so after catching his wife in bed with another monkey, which, according to Seth MacFarlane, leaves him "not so much evil as embittered". Peter is the only other character who has seen the monkey, but he mistook him for Meg. When Chris is out of the house, the Evil Monkey is having time off from gesturing and likes to smoke pot and listen to Foghat. As of It Takes a Village Idiot, and I Married One, he is now a Jehovah's Witness." Your statements are not valid or clear. Hitler's dictatorship is extreme & incomparible to the dress code policy. I do not understand your impaired judgment & thoughts unless, that's right...you spend your spare time watching the "Family Guy" & idolizing the "Evil Monkey" character. Not to jerk your "tale" or anything "Evil Monkey", but until you can come up with some credible facts, anything you blog for me is exuberant nonsense.

sunshine42,

Thanks for reiterating the useless factless claims of what the SSA is supposedly in place for. If you had any sense, then you would know that Evil Monkey is a pop culture icon since you like to make assumptions.

So, what you are saying is, if we all look alike, dress alike, act alike, talk alike, worship alike, and are taught alike the world would be a better place? I believe Hitler stated the same thing in 1933 when he started his Aryan movement in the German governemnt. None of what you are stating really makes much sense whatsoever, You feel that if each child is in uniform they will achieve more? I find that absurd, UNLESS you mean the well-off children, then Yes I can see your point. Nice try sherlock showing some insight that will truly RIP-OFF, DESTROY Futures, and utterly remove anyone with REAL talent from any sports, or extra-curricular activities that rich kids would be allowed to continue.

Evil Monkey---

Being that you identify yourself as being an "evil creature", how can one expect your sinister self to ever understand peace, harmony, and well-being. Anyone with common sense knows that there will always be good and evil in this world and it is very clear which side your on. SAT scores are for those that are gifted in academics to expand their talents while weeding out others that may need to attend trade schools or follow a technical path of life in order to develop their gifts & talents. There is no shame in either, most technical jobs pay higher wages. A school's primary focus is to help prepare the students for the next phase of life with the end result at best being able to be a strong, productive, individual & citizen. I do not know of any occupation or organization that does not implement rules and have dress codes, & make changes to their rules as they see fit according to the conduct of the employees & members. The new dress code dumb dumb is to provide security and unison amongst the students. Also, all citizens of Bedford County should take interest in our future generation. We all have been a student once, or have had children who were, or have relatives & neighbors who are now. I am a SCHS grad, have two children who have graduated from SCHS, and one who is in middle school. I am impressed with how our school system is making improvements internally & externally.

sunshine42,

What does that have to do with not enforcing the current dress code? How will another dress code fix the current one? How does the dress code fix the problem with teachers bringing a gun to school? Oh wait, yeah that never happened eh? How does the SSA place an even playing field for all the students? Trust me, YOU CANNOT answer that. None of the board members have any children in school and if they do, they aren't in public school.

Nothing again Dixie, she is a great lady and I find her intentions are good. But the decision to pass this was wrong. 50% of bedford county feels the same way and the other 30% is fearful to admit it.

Dixie Parker is a very loving, caring, and giving lady. She is very committed and takes her position on the school board very seriously for the livelihood of ALL not just a few. She serves Bedford County with a true heart & believes in promoting higher education & safety for all the students in order to make a better future for all of us. As far as the dress code goes, there has ALWAYS been a dress code; however, in the past it was not abused. The violence students & faculty are subjected to now are concealed weapons instead of words or fists, not to mention the vulgarity of indecent exposure. Also, student's concentration should be on their studies & setting goals for their futures. There are too many trivial distractions that interfere with the focus of education. A good education & trade skill can enable any person no matter what race, class, or GPA they may be to live the American Dream. As adults and parents of this community, we need to stand behind our leaders like Dixie & help the next generation exceed beyond all measure.

The only thing that bothers me is I live out of county. Dixie Parker is my #1 choice; However, I am not allowed to vote. She is a wonderful School board member. We need more people like her to step up to bat and not play lip service. She is an asset regardless of what she does in life.

Dixie Parker is one of the most caring people I know and I believe she will continue to do her best to help our educational system. Our Children need someone that puts their emphasis on education in Bedford County, not in petty cowardly comments.

In her picture, she isn't wearing the correct attire (dress code) :( Should we assume she's a bad leader?

Dixie is one of my favorite people. She is such a wonderful lady. I really hope she gets re-elected. She deserves every good thing that comes her way. Good Luck Dixie.

For some reason "DRESS CODE" just keeps coming to mind!

Mrs. Parker has done a wonderful job as our school board member and has been very active with Cascade's activities as well as educational issues that Bedford County has faced. She is very approachable and proactive with issues regarding education.
