"We did a good job of focusing those games," Champion coach Chris Parker said. "In baseball, it's hard to win them all. Sooner or later, something is going to happen to you."
Four errors proved costly for a Cascade (13-3, 7-1 9-A) team that was forced to play without the normal left side of their infield due to injuries.
"We didn't make some routine plays that we've been making," Parker said. "We just didn't do some little things right at the plate and they showed up in a big way at the end."
Kyle Clanton reached base via an error to get things started in the Cascade half of the fourth inning. Josh Brown followed with a single. Tyler Bowen cleared the sacks with an inside-the-park home run to put his team ahead 3-1.
The Cougars (11-6, 5-1) answered right back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame and never trailed again.
"It's something that's going to make us work harder," Parker said. "We've got a good baseball team. We're going to keep getting better and what matters most is May and that's what we're working toward."
Blake Harvey started for the Champs and went 3 2/3 innings. He was saddled with the loss despite not giving up an earned run. Brown manned the final 2 1/3 on the mound. He struck out four, gave up two hits and didn't walk a batter.
MTC ace Taylor Beckham fanned 10 and didn't issue a free pass in his complete-game performance. He also helped himself at the dish with two singles. Charlie Fraser doubled and singled.
Clanton singled twice for half of Cascade's hits.
The Orange and Black trade out the aluminum for the wood in a doubleheader on Thursday at Huntland.
