Five errors cost Webb in Sewanee

Wednesday, April 9, 2008

Webb used a four-run sixth-inning rally to snag an 8-6 lead with six outs to go at St. Andrew's-Sewanee.

The first two of those outs came and the anticipation of taking down a region rival started to build. But, the Mountain Lions were not to be denied as they took advantage of wild pitching and defensive mistakes to steal a 9-8 win.

Rachel Pearson singled with two down in the bottom of the sixth to keep hope alive for SAS. A walk and two crucial errors allowed the game-tying and game-winning runs to score.

"At the start of the season, we're making a lot of mistakes but hopefully getting a little bit better," Webb coach James Garcia said. "But, it's a frustrating loss."

Lady Feet pitchers issued a total of 10 walks, which compounded the problem created by five errors in the field.

Pearson totaled seven strikeouts on the bump to pick up the victory.

Webb's Savannah Scarlett tallied four Ks.

Caitlin Simpson, Elizabeth Lawrence and Alison Pruter all had two hits apiece for the Lady Feet.

The Bell Buckle girls look to get their first win of the season on April 15 when Davidson Academy visits.
