Following a come-from-behind 8-5 win Tuesday in Bell Buckle, that is all that's left for the Webb Feet to finish off a three-game sweep of St. Andrew's-Sewanee in Division II East/Middle Region action this week.
Webb won Monday in Sewanee 5-1 behind a one-hitter from senior standout Jordan Burchett while younger brother Logan Burchett then followed on Tuesday with the complete-game victory on the mound.
"The last two days, we got great pitching performances," Feet coach Don Rhoton said. "(Monday), we had a great performance by Jordan Burchett. Today, Logan Burchett just kept doing what he was supposed to, not giving them anything free.
"Today, we had some defensive miscues, but sometimes the bats override those things. If we can beat these teams that we are competitive with, then that is always a step in the right direction."
After the Mountain Lions grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second, Chase Adcock's run-scoring single allowed the hosts to knot the score at 2-all in their half of the inning.
SAS tallied two more in the third, but Jordan Burchett and Hunter Foutch nailed key singles, leading to a run and a 4-3 deficit.
In the fifth, Webb took the lead for good with two crucial runs. Jordan Foutch led off with a double and William Arquitt followed with a single. Foutch trotted home on a pickoff to second to tie it at 4-all. Later, following Jordan Burchett's single, Miles Haynes' RBI single with two outs gave the Feet a 5-4 edge.
Jordan Burchett's two-out, two-run triple in the sixth broke the game open and put the home team up 7-4.
Hunter Foutch tacked on a run-scoring double to give Webb a four-run cushion.
The Lions plated their final run in the seventh off a Feet fielding error.
Webb (3-1-1, 2-0 East/Middle Region) goes for the region sweep today at 4, traveling back up the mountain for the final game of the three-game set between the two rivals.
"We're going to go with sophomore Hunter Foutch who is very athletic but hasn't pitched a lot," Rhoton said about his pitching situation heading into today's tilt. "At this point we're just not used to having to go with a third starter, but we will have to find that because that's the way it goes with our conference this year."
