Wartrace boil order still in effect

Thursday, April 10, 2008

While Wartrace residents are being asked to boil their water for another day, Mayor Don Gallagher says he is optimistic about the situation.

A drinking water warning was issued for the system last week as a precaution due to high turbidity levels and the potential of contaminated water.

Gallagher said Wednesday that one section of water lines was flushed near Beech Grove and samples of the water were sent to Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) for testing.

The mayor added that he "feels good about the direction we are heading," and hopes that the town is close to getting the problem resolved.

He stated the turbidity levels at Cascade Spring were good and that he has a plan of action to present to the Wartrace Board of Mayor and Aldermen at its next meeting, which is scheduled for Monday at 7 p.m.

Bell Buckle has already lifted the boil order since it has access to two different water supplies. The town began taking its water from Bedford County Utility District when the Wartrace-owned water system began having its problems.
