Garage door set to strike bystander

Friday, April 11, 2008
Racist graffiti and emblems were sprayed on the walls of a West Jackson Street home at which the garage door was booby-trapped, Shelbyville police said Wednesday.

The door's handle was set so, when opened, it would swing out and strike the person opening it in the face.

A window air conditioner was destroyed and the gas heater and kitchen counter were burned, police said.

Roger Wagoner told police the damage occurred between April 3-4 and Monday.

Tools stolen

A large amount of hand and electrical tools were taken from a mini-barn outside the home of Joe Cartwright, Stardust Drive, between April 1 and Tuesday.

Cartwright notifed police Tuesday of the burglary.

No signs of forced entry were found.
