Late errors hamper Vikes

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

Cody Pierce matched up with Eagleville ace James Blackwell and kept the Vikings in the game for four innings before errors became a detriment that they couldn't overcome in a 12-2 loss on a cold, windy day in Rutherford County.

"We played well for four innings and then had a complete meltdown," Community coach Josh Burrahm said. "We have to learn that it is a seven-inning game and that we have to play a complete game, especially against good teams."

Pierce scattered 10 hits over five innings and departed with the score 7-2.

The Community (3-6, 2-5 District 9-A) offense made some noise in their first at-bat against Blackwell as Pierce led off with a single and Lance Paschal continues to scorch the ball with a tremendous shot into the outfield alley for a triple to give his team the early lead.

The Eagles scored two runs in the fourth inning and three in the fifth before they broke it wide open with five in the sixth on two Viking errors.

Community takes on Eagleville in Unionville today at 5.
