Drug dog detects marijuana in car

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

A Shelbyville man was arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop Thursday night.

Police say 70.65 grams of marijuana were found in a car driven by Justin Franklin Baker, 24, Jennings Lane, after he was stopped for allegedly running a stop sign at the West Lane Street-Lane Parkway intersection.

Officer Gregg Loyd said he smelled a marijuana odor as he approached the car, asked for consent to search the vehicle and was refused.

Officer Tracey Nelson was called to bring drug dog Remy. Baker was told Remy would be walked around his 1980 Chevrolet Caprice and placed inside if marijuana was detected.

After alerting on the driver's side door Remy was placed inside and alerted under the passenger side seat, Loyd said. A bag containing marijuana was found along with digital scales, a grinder, rolling papers and a box of clear plastic bags.

Baker was charged with possession of a schedule VI drug and possession of drug paraphernalia and his car seized. He posted $3,500 bond at Bedford County Jail.

Party's over

Police abruptly ended a party Friday night at an East Cedar Street home.

Officers, who had been notified of loud music coming from the residence, said they found a pyramid of beer cans and a bottle of whiskey as they approached.

The smell of marijuana permeated the house, in which blunts and a large number of open alcoholic beverages were discovered, Officer Josh Leverette said.

James Robert Beasley, 18, Highway 130 East, was charged with simple possession and violation of the drinking age law after marijuana and Zanax were found in a pants pocket, police said. Beasley told officers he'd been asleep in a locked bedroom and was unaware what was going on elsewhere in the home.

A juvenile was also charged after stating the marijuana and Xanax belonged to him.

Jessica Brasher, 21, Knight Campground Road, was charged with five counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor when she arrived and allegedly admitted knowledge of alcohol and juveniles in the home.

John Wesley Clark, 18, Warners Bridge Road, Nathan Lee Holton, 18, Locust Street, Bo Drake Spivey, 18, Carter Street, and Perry Kyle Stubblefield, 19, Whiteside Road, were each charged with violation of the drinking age law. They each posted $1,000 bond.

Thefts

A burglary overnight Friday at Javi's Auto Sales, U.S. 41-A North, netted cash and a large amount of auto parts.

Manager Javies Galvan told Deputy Benjamin Burris 16 catalytic converters worth $1,600, 40 used radiators valued at $1,400, an estimated $1,200 worth of hand tools, 12 used wheels and tires valued at $1,000, an impact gun, handgun, battery charger and relatively small sum of money from the cash register were stolen.

A glass door was shattered to gain entry, Burris said.

*Three go-carts, one a commemorative Dr. Pepper edition bearing the number 99, and a 4'x8' utility trailer were stolen from a shop building near a Unionville-Deason Road home Tuesday of last week, according to a Bedford County Sheriff's Department report.

Entry was gained by breaking a gate.

The owner, who was not named in the report, is absent and the home is being prepared for sale.

That is the problem a few of the judges in this town want to say well they have only been in trouble 10 times maybe they will learn their lesson. They don't check into things either my stepson testified and because he was a minor testifying against an adult the judge believed the adult. A few months later the adult proved the child right buy commiting more crimes. That was Judge Cox. Pay attention Judge the voting public will be.

T-Mac, although I'm sure Mr. Baker does know a few in the Drug Task Force I'm also quiet positive they do not set bail amounts. Could it be the boy you're referring to was a little rude to the judge setting his bond?

*Nasir Dahir Nur, 26, Nashville; running red light/stop sign, speeding/warning only; released, $500 bond

Pardon me, I cannot say that Mr. Baker was convicted of the charges that I listed below, I only know that he was charged. Each person is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a jury of their peers. I jumped the gun on posting that with the insinuation that he has been found guilty of these charges. I apologize for the way that my last post sounds.

How does a man get busted with 70.65 grams of schedule 6 drugs, scales and clear baggies, every thing you need to resale, and his bond was only $3500.00.About a month ago a boy had less than half that much and rolling papers and seized his ride, and his bond was $15000.00.Whats up do we know someone in the drug taskforce agency,or what.......
