Pfc. Larry Eugene Mullins was a native of Bedford County. He was born October 27, 1950, and attended Community High School in Unionville. He volunteered for the U.S. Marines in May of 1969 and planned to further his education while in the service. He did his basic training at Camp Pendleton, Ca. His tour of duty began on November 15, 1969. He died on April 1, 1970 from wounds he suffered from hostile ground fire. He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart Medal for his actions in Vietnam.
