It's time for the town's residents to put on their work gloves and get rid of all that junk laying around for the annual Wartrace Beautification Week.
During the event, Wartrace residents are being encouraged to take the time to spruce up their property.
Throughout the week, ending Friday, workers for the town will be busy picking up brush, old appliances, worn out furniture, old toilets and sinks, miscellaneous junk and hazardous waste.
While Shelbyville had some limitations on what could be disposed of, that doesn't seem to be the case for Wartrace. Even inoperable and junk cars may be disposed of this week.
All the items to be thrown away must be carried to the edge of the road and should be sorted and stacked separately.
Also in Wartrace, treatment for mosquito prevention will begin Thursday. Items that hold water and allow it to become stagnant, such as cans, tires, and buckets, are prime breed areas for the flying parasites and need to be removed to ensure the success of the treatment program.
As for Shelbyville, Public Works director Mark Clanton said last week's clean up produced the biggest haul of junk that the city has ever collected. Workers hauled out 158 loads of material last week, as opposed to 87 loads carried of this past fall.
About 60 dumpsters full of junk was picked up, Clanton said, who called the event a "tremendous success."

there are alot of junky places in wartrace
Why doesn't the city make the Chockley Inn clean up that place. It's suppose to be a landmark or something when actually it is an overgrown mess. I don't see how the neighbors stand it. And I will never understand why that man took down his fence. It hid alot of it. You know out of sight out of mind. It really makes the neighborhood look bad.
I wonder if this is only within the city limits of Wartrace because I live just past the park?
