Michael Martin banged home a goal in stoppage time for Cascade but it was too little, too late as they fell 2-1 to visiting Forrest in District 11-A/AA play.

The Champions (2-5-1) had their opportunities from point blank range earlier in the match but failed to capitalize. Eli Basurto banged a penalty kick off the cross bar 4:29 into the second half. A pair of rebounds off the miss both barely missed the twine as well.

Basurto was just off for the second time when another shot on goal hit the cross bar in the 71st minute.

"We were all over the goal, we just didn't get it there," Cascade coach Monica Lewis said. "I feel like we outplayed them."

Despite the defeat, Lewis is optimistic heading into the postseason as she noted how "it was the best game we played this year."

"There was teamwork all over that field. Everything has meshed. I think we're really ready for the weekend."

Devon O'Brien was credited with an own goal to put the Rockets (4-1-3) up 1-0 in the 33rd minute. O'Brien banged home their second score on a penalty kick with 21:14 to go in the game.

Cascade celebrated Senior Day prior to the match, honoring Kevin Culp, Larry Bardoff, Chris Martin, Albert Hatchett, Daniel Faulk, Timo Murray and Travis Jenkins.

"This being my first year with the varsity, they've been a lot of help and support to me," Lewis said. "They stepped up their leadership that I asked them to in the beginning, all of them. They're completely different personalities, but when it comes to the team, they mesh together. I'm proud of that, and I'm pleased."

Kyle Billingsley was in goal for Forrest. Bryan Hayes manned keeper duties for the Champs.

Up next for both teams is the 11-A/AA tournament. Page hosts the semifinals and finals.
