Tuesday, May 13, 2008

Marijuana was confiscated Friday night from a speeding driver on Wartrace Pike, Shelbyville police said.

A car driven by Richard Shelton Hathaway, 33, Melody Drive, was allegedly clocked at 80 mph in a 55 mph zone by Officer David Curley.

Hathaway, 33, Melody Drive, allegedly had a ball of tin foil containing marijuana and two Xanax tablets in his pocket, Curley said.

Officers said Hathaway apologized for his alleged condition while being transported to Bedford County Jail, where he is being held on $5,000 bond.

A passenger, Ben Steven Dykes, 44, Manchester, was charged with public intoxication and is being held on $250 bond, jail records indicate.

*Another drug arrest occurred Friday night after a resident of Davis Estates Apartments, Anthony Lane, reported a suspicious vehicle.

Officer Waymond Boyd said he followed the car to a Madison Street pool room where driver Michael William Brothers, 20, Madison Street, allegedly ran into the building despite orders to halt.

Brothers put a small bag of marijuana on one of the pockets of a pool table, Boyd said.

Charges of possession of a schedule VI drug and evading arrest were filed against Brothers, who posted $6,000 bond.
