The Mullins blast was his 10th of the season but was too little, too late for Cascade in their 8-3 sectional loss to Richland in front of a capacity crowd in Wartrace on Friday night.
The Raiders (29-3) pounded out 11 hits and got clutch pitching from Blayze Parsons to advance to the Spring Fling for the second consecutive year. They face Harriman (17-17) in the first round of the state tournament on Tuesday at 4 at Middle Tennessee Christian.
The season for Cascade comes to a close with a final record of 27-6, including a stocking of their trophy case with both the regular season and tournament plaques from winning District 9-A and the Region 5-A championship.
"We would have liked to have won the last game we played but unfortunately only one team does that," Cascade coach Chris Parker said. "We did a lot of good things along the way. We beat some people we were supposed to beat and beat some people we weren't supposed to beat. It's just a shame it ended this way but that's baseball, that's why we play."

"They're all outstanding young men," Parker said. "We've taught them what we could to send them off to life to do that. That's what this is all about. That's what I try to teach.
"We want them all to play baseball in college but the main thing is for them to get an education and be a good man out there in life. I think all of them are going to be very successful and be good citizens and do this world some good."
Joey Wagoner singled with one down in the Richland half of the first inning. With two down, Justin McNeese, Parsons and Dustin Jett all singled in succession to key a three-run rally off Champion starting pitcher Josh Brown (9-1).
Cascade had an immediate opportunity to answer after Mullins walked and Clanton singled and stole second base to place runners in scoring position with two outs. However, Parsons bowed up and ended the threat with consecutive strikeouts.
Batts came through by dropping in a two-out single to left in the second inning that plated a pair to draw the hosts to within 3-2.
Just when it looked like Brown had settled down after retiring four straight hitters, the heart of the Raider order struck again in the third.

With Parsons cruising on the hill, he had all the support he needed. The right-hander went all seven innings, allowing but five hits and three walks while fanning six.
"(Parsons) threw strikes and that's what pitchers are supposed to do," Parker said. "He threw his curveball for a strike. It was a tough pitch to hit, he did a good job and we could only scratch across three on him."
Stewart relieved Bryant and kept his team in it by allowing only one score in four innings pitched.

Sports Mom I agree with you. I don't understand the difference in liability of someone playing on their field and someone using Central's facility to hit/practice for a tournament.
Central also has allowed basketball teams to come in and practice and warm-up against their Eaglettes.
Coach Frasier had nothing to do with the fact that the team lost and there certainly is no reason for you to be embarassed for his actions. The actions of being a "courteous" coach and for him being sportsman like in allowing someone to use his facilty? Why would you be embarassed for that? I know I'm not embarassed by his actions. I'm glad he allowed the other teams- notice I said teams- to use the facility.
Tater
Here's what I read:
"I am embarassed for Coach Frasier and his participation in our last home game." I don't believe he was coaching either team in that game so what participation are you referring to? As far as liability insurance, wouldn't it be the same difference as any team that plays at any of our fields? I'm sure the county has a good liablilty plan that covers any team or player on any of our fields or facilities in this county. Would it not be the same difference as when they walked on the field at Cascade? I don't see how insurance could possibly be the issue here.
Sports Mom - You should read the statement before you write something in reply. I did not mention anything about blaming the loss on a coach from another team. Richland is a good team and I expect them to beat Harriman in the first round of the State Tournament.
My question is where is it written in the operating policies and procedures of the Bedford County School system that this can be done?
Were the Richland kids covered by Bedford County Schools liability insurance while they were on the property at Central?
Can't you just let this go? Are you honestly trying to say that Cascade lost this game because Richland was allowed to hit in Central's facility? Come on people - Grow Up!! If Central hadn't allowed them to hit there they would have found another place to hit. Cascade lost to a team that just played better that night. They had a wonderful season. Don't take away all the good things that the kids achieved this year by belly aching because they got beat. I've heard people blame losses on umpires but this is the first time I've ever heard of blaming the coach from another team that has nothing to do with the game. What kind of lesson is this teaching our kids? If you lose, don't take the responsibility, just look for someone else to blame? And one more thing - I have a pretty good idea that the Eaglettes would not mind at all if Cascade opened its facility to anyone that they play!!!
We are proud of this Cascade Champion baseball team! Great Season, guys!
I am embarassed for Coach Frasier and his participation in our last home game. I would like to see the newspaper publish the School Board approved policy and procedure for opening county facilities to ballteams from outside the county. What is the cost of the additional liability insurance to the county taxpayers for this? We want to make sure all schools know the policy so we can open our sports facilities when schools from outside the county come to warm up before a basketball game against the Eaglettes.
