"Twenty-somethings are searching for truth," said the Rev. Trevin Wax, associate pastor at First Baptist Church. "They want to know why Christianity is true, why it matters, and whether it's really good."
Wax believes that church should be a place where people can ask questions. Since he started his twenty-somethings Life Path Class in February 2007 he's tried to answer life questions for the folks to which he ministers.
Wax is starting a new series of classes for this age group that will run through the summer. He calls the series "You Asked For It...Timely Questions...Timely Answers." The classes meet Sundays at 8:45 a.m. at the church. The summer series will start on June 1 and run through Aug. 10.
The Life Path Class will focus on specific questions that were asked by members of the class. Wax wants to encourage people from across the area who fall into the twenty-something or thirty-something age range to join them for these classes.
The questions being addressed include:
* Can there really be just one true religion?
* What about the Gnostic Gospels and "The Da Vinci Code?"
* Does the Bible speak to the issue of birth control?
* What does Christianity teach that is unique among all other religions?
* How politically involved should Christians be?
* Can a person be a true Christian without being particularly religious?
* Can a person who commits suicide go to Heaven?
* How could God allow the world to have so much suffering? Why do bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people?
* What will happen to those who never heard the Gospel?
* How are Baptists different from other denominations?
The people who have attended past Life Path classes have come from varied backgrounds; some are fairly new to church life, and others have been involved in church for most of their lives. There are singles and couples.
"A key to this class is not just the teaching, but there's lots of fellowship," Wax said. "We have our class on Sunday, but we have other activities too. We meet for outreach once a month, we have game-night once a month, we have meals together, and watch documentaries. We have fun, and we also talk about weighty things. We've developed some good friendships."
Three people connected to the class just left for New Orleans this week with a group of people from the community to help with hurricane relief efforts.
Wax was raised in Murfreesboro, and graduated from Franklin Road Christian School there. After high school he attended college in Romania, receiving a bachelor's degree in pastoral theology from Emanuel University in Oradea.
"I'd been over to Romania on mission trips and God impressed me to go there to college," Wax said. "So, I bought a one way ticket and went. I learned the language quickly, and I was able to preach every Sunday in Romanian."
Wax met his wife, Corina, in Romania. They have a 3-year-old son, Timothy, and are expecting a baby girl in June.

thank GOD for you young man!
I have to say this is one of the most proactive, intelligent ways of promoting a class by actually being smart about answering questions people would really have. Not the JESUS DIED, JESUS LIVED, JESUS AROSE as an answer to all questions.
