Race Unity Day held

Monday, June 9, 2008
(Photo)
The Race Unity Day picnic, held Saturday at the Lions Club Pavilion at H.V. Griffin Park, drew a lighter-than-expected crowd, which organizers said was partly because some would-be participants were called in at the last minute for factory work and could not attend. But those who were in attendance, from a variety of backgrounds including Caucasian, Hispanic and Somali, enjoyed a variety of foods, from American hamburgers to Persian rice, as well as live music and fellowship. The event, meant to raise cultural awareness, friendship and understanding, was organized by practitioners of the Baha'i faith.

I can believe it. I'm just ashamed to hear it.

"...we welcome them with open arms like fools."

Our government has forced them upon us, that doesn't necessarily mean they are welcome.

There is a solution. They need to be sent back to their respective countries...those that want to "unify" with them need to go with them. If they are so willing to live among them, then that's where they need to be.

We are not supposed to "unify" races. That's why God seperated the different races into thier own countries. Hispanics and Somalians as well as others contibute nothing to our Western civilization as we know it. These people are the reason why thier countries are in such poor shape. Now they come here to take or "share" what we built and we welcome them with open arms like fools.

The whole point of this was unity of the "races". If it was "whites" only what would you be unifying with?

-- Posted by devan on Tue, Jun 10, 2008, at 7:04 PM

If white people held a race unity picnic it would be called a Klan rally.

White people would not be allowed to have a "a white only" race unity, the NAACP would make sure that didn't happen. But you'd be amazed at some of your respected officials that would be there if it did happen. Whites are not legally allowed to have an all-white organization. Desegregation laws took care of that in the 60's.

time2relax, you need to take a moment and actually act out your name!

"Those people who are "in charge" want to fool themselves into believing that we Americans care."

So are you speaking for every American? Or just some? What makes a person American?

Maybe some of them ARE Americans.

EM, Baha'i is a what you would call a syncretic religion. It is monotheistic and worships a God creator, but accepts the teachings of the prophets and leaders of the worlds major religions and sees them as building upon each other. Oversimplified description but you can probably dig out the details if you are really interested. I think you would find it fascinating.

Of course it drew a lower than expected crowd. Those people who are "in charge" want to fool themselves into believing that we Americans care. Not everybody cares about Spanish or Somalian cultures. They do not try to understand ours nor do they to follow our laws. The people "in charge" need to face reality: most Americans would rather they go back where they came from and when something needs to be known about them, we'll look it up.

Baha'i faith, is this a religion or more of a state of community fellowship without talking about religion? I really didn't read too much about this yet because of my time restraints but it is somewhat interesting to me.

I lived around those people for almost two years at Davis Estates(a more realistic way of knowing their true habits) . . . that is enough interaction for me for a lifetime.

I wasn't able to attend this event but would have liked to. I encourage the organizers to make this a regular event. The more interaction we have among the different cultures and races the more understanding we will become.
