Franklin blasts Sox in 8th inning

Thursday, June 12, 2008
The Shelbyville Sox were cruising toward their first Tennessee Baseball Federation victory of the season leading the Franklin Phillies 4-2 heading into the top half of the eighth inning.

Some players were talking about how nice it would be to finally get a 'W' and the postgame celebration.

The Phillies made the Sox pay dearly for their fifth error of the game to plate seven runs in their final at-bat and stole a 9-4 win on Wednesday evening at Cascade High School.

Joey Simmons reached via an error and Josh Simmons was hit on the arm to get things going for Shelbyville in the bottom of the second. Levi Bain scalded a two-run single to push them ahead 2-1.

In the fourth, Stefin Reed singled, stole two bases and came home on a Brad Shelton base hit to lift the Sox to a 3-2 upper hand.

Tyler Bowman opened the fifth for the hosts with a single. He touched the dish thanks to a double via Brad Meeks.

Danny Parker was the losing pitcher after hurling all eight innings. The right-hander struck out six, walked three, hit one batter and was the victim of eight unearned runs.

The next home game for the local team is versus the Nashville Blazers on Wednesday night at 7:30 in Wartrace.
