Bedford County authorities recovered the body of 19-year-old Nathan Andrew Young, of Tullahoma, 50 feet down a ravine off U.S. 41-A South near Granny Fishes Restaurant, said Lt. Ray Higginbotham of the Tullahoma Police Department.
According to a report by Tennessee State Trooper Mike Hall, Young was travelling south in a 1997 Jeep when he "ran off the west side of the roadway going down an embankment."
Young was employed at Shelbyville Recreation Center as a lifeguard.
"Our staff is very upset," said Sylvia Pinson, director of Shelbyville's Park and Recreation Department. "We hate to lose a young man like that."
Pinson said she was informed of Young's death early this morning, and that aquatics director Pam Henry has been "calling everyone to let them know" and has also been speaking to the lifeguards on duty about the death.
The missing persons report was filed Monday, Higginbotham said. Young had not been seen since around 11 a.m. Saturday in Tullahoma, he said.
Young's location was determined when his cell phone was tracked by Tullahoma Officer Phil Henderson, Higginbotham said.
