The pyrotechnics display kicks off at 9 p.m.
The back gate on the Horse Mountain Road side of the park will close at 8:30 p.m. and the main gate will shutter at 8:45. No one will be allowed past "softball lane" at the complex, due to safety concerns.
Recreation director Sylvia Pinson said the park is likely to be packed due to the state of the economy and the price of gas keeping people closer to home this year.
Also, more visitors may be coming from Tullahoma because that city has canceled its fireworks event for this year due to safety concerns with the aging Wilkins Stadium bleachers, where the annual display is held.
Arnold Air Force Base has also announced it will not be holding a fireworks display on the 4th, deciding instead to hold one in September to commemorate the Air Force's 60th anniversary.
The weather has cooperated this year with plenty of rain, so there are no concerns like last year, when the city had to cancel its fireworks due to drought.
Shelbyville's fire department, as well as the county's emergency management agency, will be on hand to deal with any problems that could arise due to the fireworks.
In March, the city council voted to execute a contract with Melrose Display Co. for the pyrotechnics show at a cost of $8,500, with one half of the costs for the display to be paid by Bedford County government.
