A pair of Cascade Champions continue to rake in the awards after highly-successful seasons. Outfielder Corey Mullins and pitcher Josh Brown were named this week to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association All-State baseball team for Class A.

On top of playing a gold glove center field, Mullins collected 51 hits en route to a .459 batting average. He belted 10 home runs and was tied for fifth in the state in stolen bases with 31. In the sectional game versus Richland, Mullins homered in the final at-bat of his career and threw a runner out at the plate.

"It's great that all my hard work has paid off, and it's an honor to be named to All-State," said Mullins, who plans on furthering his career on the diamond at Maryville College this fall.

When the Champs had injuries at the top of their pitching rotation, Brown stepped up. The junior southpaw went 9-1 with a and 81 strikeouts in 55 2/3 innings. He carried better than a 4:1 strikeout to walk ratio.

"It feels pretty good to be up there with all of them," Brown said. "I made it thanks to my teammates. I wouldn't have made it if I didn't have them behind me."

Both players previously earned spots on the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association All-Region 5 team.

Brown recently competed with teammate Blake Harvey in the TBCA Showcase at Lipscomb University. He also earned honors as District 9-A pitcher of the year.

Mullins was tabbed the David Parker Champion of the Year by his teammates and coaches along with being All-District 9-A.

Cascade finished the season 27-6 after winning both District 9-A and Region 5-A.

Very well deserved selections. I wish Cory the best at Maryville, and Josh should be hard to handle again next year. Great job by two GOOD kids.
