It may have been the fact that it was child number two, but the peaceful room -- which she had all to herself -- the great food, and the welcoming staff certainly made it so much easier than the first time.

"The delivery was wonderful," said Misty Lee. "The first one was really rough."

"And we received a lot of one-on-one attention," added her husband, Brandon. "We weren't treated like cattle."

Weighing 7 pounds and 14 ounces, Misty and Brandon Lee welcomed their daughter, Laila Sonshine Brandon, into the world Tuesday. She was the first baby born at the new Heritage Medical Center.

"She came into this world vigorous and bright-eyed," said Dr. Jan Crean, who delivered Laila.

Liese Harris, director of the OB/GYN department, was extremely pleased with the new hospital's first delivery.

"We all felt very ready and excited," said Harris. "Tracy Stembridge was her delivery nurse and she got to use the new computer system ... It was excellent. Everything went really smooth."

Misty and Brandon, and their 5-year-old son, Robby, live in Lewisburg. When Misty became pregnant for her second child, she needed to find a doctor, since they had recently moved to the area from Nashville to be closer to their family in Chapel Hill.

Dr. Crean was recommended to Misty, who was not even aware, at that time, that a new hospital was coming to Shelbyville.

"I knew about it; I helped build it," laughed her husband, a former construction worker who helped with the building of the hospital's first stages.

Laila was due on July 24, so she entered the world nine days ahead of schedule.

"I had a feeling she'd come early," said Misty. "We were really hoping we would get to come (to the new hospital)."

"She was ready to come out," Brandon added.

"And I was ready for her to come out!" said Misty, who said the delivery was extremely smooth. She said privacy and comfort of the room, the warm staff, and the food she described as being "110 percent better than typical hospital food" made her hospital stay a good one.

Misty and Brandon, who've been married for six years, both agree baby Laila looks like Brandon and her big brother, Robby. She has her father's chin, her mother's ears, brown hair and blue eyes that are turning gray.

"I hope they stay blue," said Brandon. "But I really don't care. I'd be happy if they turn out purple."

Brandon and Misty chose the name Laila because it's one that Brandon has always loved, and Sonshine is Misty's middle name.

Now that Laila has joined their family, both agree that are finished having children.

"No more children," said Misty."We now have a boy and a girl. I kind of had a feeling it was going to be a girl even before I found out (through ultrasound). I felt different ... she made me very sick."

So far, Laila is doing well and sleeping a lot, but Brandon and Misty were very much looking forward to returning home Thursday evening, even though they say their time at Heritage was great.

"We're looking forward to taking her home and getting to know her better without all the commotion," said Misty.

Misty is also looking forward to spending time with her mother, who flew in last week from Oklahoma to help Misty out for a few weeks.

"Mom will be staying through Robby's first week of school, until we all get settled into a good routine."

this was a wonderfully responded to article sounds like the community shared in the joy of the new o.b. unit funny now that they are trying to close it seemingly quietly and behind our backs and against alot of the communities wishes
