Park to hold music, skateboard event

Friday, July 18, 2008
The Skateboard Bash & Thrash competition will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at H.V. Griffin Park, followed by the "Drop In & Rock Out" tour at 7 p.m.

The concert will consist of performances by three bands -- High Flight Society, Our Heart's Hero, and Philmont.

The tour will also offer a demonstration by professional freestyle skater Tim Byrne.

The concert is sponsored by Gateway Church.

The skate competition is sponsored by Shelbyville Optimist Club and 8th Day Skate Shop.

The Bash & Thrash skateboarding event had originally been scheduled as part of the Independence Day celebrations at the park, but was postponed due to bad weather.

Organizers thought it would fit well with the "Drop In & Rock Out" tour, so they rescheduled it for Saturday.

For more information call Jennifer Swann at 684-9780.

Shelbyville needs more events like this to keep our young people out of trouble.

(I'm only 26 yrs old and I am sounding like my parents.)
