Big hit sends Legion to state title

Friday, July 25, 2008
A first-inning home run was all the firepower Shelbyville Post 23 needed to down Manchester 3-1 Monday and claim the state American Legion title.

Will Trice, in the game's second at-bat, brought home himself and Seth Draine, who reached base on a walk.

From that point, pitcher Shaq Thompson held Manchester to only four hits. Jeremy Estill tripled in the first inning to put a scare into Post 23 followed by a Dallas Holmes single, but Manchester only managed two more hits.

Shelbyville's other score came in the fifth inning when Michael Watkins scored on a Connor Tracy single.

win a state championship and get a story like this four days after the fact? what's wrong with that picture? not good coverage at all. if a team from this county wins a state championship at any level in any age group, it should be a much bigger story than this and it should be reported in a timely manner. this is embarrassing to say the least. i wonder if another certain team in this county had won a state championship, wouldn't the coverage have been much greater? this speaks volumes...an adult baseball team that gets maximum coverage with very, very little interest has a bigger story than a local team winning a state championship. What a joke.
