Early voting still slow, but numbers increase

Thursday, July 31, 2008

Early voting for the Aug. 7 primary and general elections has picked up somewhat since the slow start reported last week.

"It's still not wonderful," said Administrator of Elections Summer Leverette, "but it has picked up."

Early voting continues through Saturday in the basement of the county courthouse. Hours are 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. through Friday, 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday.

Wednesday morning, Leverette reported that Tuesday had been the busiest day of the current early voting period, with 71 voters participating. A total of 355 voters have participated in early voting so far, including mailed-in absentee ballots.

Meanwhile, Aug. 21 at noon is the deadline for local candidates to qualify for the November general elections. Shelbyville, Wartrace and Normandy will have town elections, and the vacancy created by the death of Third District County Commission member Roger Brothers will be filled. In addition, an Eighth District Road Board seat for which no candidates qualified for the August election will appear again on the November ballot.

Who wants to vote for these school board members. When they go ahead pass something that most of the public is totally against. (Dress Code). I sure don't.
