Thief steals Bible from vehicle

Wednesday, August 6, 2008

Some thieves just have no respect.

A Bible and a birthday gift were stolen this week in the Shelbyville area, police say.

The Bible was taken Sunday night from a case in a car parked outside a Fairoak Street home, police said. The case, bearing a cross on its cover, also contained Sunday School books.

Officers said the thief also took two folding lawn chairs but left behind a checkbook.

A $100 bill was stolen Monday from a birthday card in a car at a home on Highway 64 East just outside Shelbyville, the Bedford County Sheriff's Department said.

The victim told the BCSD she suspected the occupant of a pewter SUV seen in the driveway near her vehicle.

City police also report:

* Someone in an adjoining unit of an Earnhart Street duplex punched a hole in an attic wall and moved a diaper bag.

Officers found insulation and a pair of rubber gloves behind the duplex. Police said it appeared unlikely anyone fully entered the attic because of the opening's small size and protruding nails.

* A self-propelled lawn mower was stolen from the carport of a Ray Street home overnight Sunday.

* Fifteen storm windows and frames were removed from a Cedar Grove Street house.

The following were arrested since Monday by the Bedford County Sheriff's Department, Shelbyville Police Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol or 17th Judicial District Drug Task Force and processed through Bedford County Jail. The Leverette family pretty much keeps the cops busy, huh?

A thief stealing a bible! Amazing. I hope the thief

reads the bible and books: They may get something out of it.
