Attitudes of hard work and determination are apparent as the Cascade Champions and new assistant coach Cade Ruehling step onto the practice field.

Ruehing, who coaches wide receivers, is passing on some of the knowledge he says he learned years ago on the same field from coach Kenny Parker.

Born and raised in Bedford County, Ruehling has been coaching baseball in Grundy County for several years.

"It feels good to be back home," Ruehling said. "Bedford County has a small town vibe where everyone is like family."

Ruehing looks right at home on the field as he directs his squad of receivers to perfect their initial game plan.

"These kids will need to become very aggressive," Ruehing said when asked what he's expecting from his receivers. "We have to be in tip-top shape and be able to run great routes in order to be playmakers for this team.

"With some key injuries already hurting this receiving group, we will need the other receivers to step up and be leaders."

Ruehling says he's impressed with his group's efforts.

"These are all great kids out here playing for this team. They are working hard to become better football players and that is what will win games."

The Champions head to Chapel Hill for a jamboree on Saturday afternoon.
