Suspect allegedly takes mower-loaded trailers

A Moore County man has been charged with stealing lawn equipment from a wide area, including Bedford County, over the past year.

Officers recovered some of the property last week at a Franklin County home and arrested Norman Litchford of Raysville Road, Moore County Sheriff Mark Logan said.

"He was stealing big, zero-turn lawn mowers, four-wheelers, Weedeaters...mostly high-dollar stuff," Logan said.

"He'd back up to fully-loaded trailers with lawn mowers, hitch up and steal the whole thing," Bedford County Sheriff Randall Boyce said.

A search warrant was served late Thursday and early Friday and a Franklin County home searched, Farris. Participants included Logan and Chief Detective Robin Holt from Moore County, Farris and Detective Scott Jones from Bedford County, Mike Bell from Franklin County and Norman Dalton from Marshall County.

The owner of the Franklin County home told investigators he was unaware the items were stolen. He has not been charged, authorities said.

Burglary charge

A woman who earlier claimed money had been taken from her truck has been charged with burglarizing a residence, authorities say.

Josefina Vargas, of Shelbyville, admitted entering a home on Webb Road East in Bell Buckle Aug. 11, stealing $900 cash and flushing $800 worth of checks down a toilet, Detective Sgt. Scott Jones of the Bedford County Sheriff's Department said.

The $900 cash was recovered from a home in Shelbyville, Jones said.

Vargas was also charged with filing a false report, Jones said, after claiming $80 was stolen from her truck.

Theft

A bottle of Xanax pills was taken Monday from a car at Bedford Manor Apartments, Barksdale Lane, Shelbyville police said.
