Right before adjournment, councilman Al Stephenson asked planning and codes director Kip Green if the old Kroger building on Madison Street could be used for light industrial purposes, or I-1 zoning.
Green replied, "It depends on the use." The building is currently zoned C-2 (highway service district or general commercial use), Green said. Stephenson told the Times-Gazette he had gotten a call regarding the question, but could not say who was asking about the building's use.
In addition to that question, the commission dealt with a list of items, including site plan approvals and grading plans.
The commission voted to rescind Premier Development's Carlton Way Farm PUD (Planned Unit Development) ordinance, returning the most easterly five-acre lot to C-2 (highway service district or general commercial use), with the remaining portion reverting back to its original zoning.
At the same time, the commission voted to approve a rezoning request made by American Value Homes for that remaining portion on Frank Martin Road from PUD (Planned Unit Development) to C-2 (highway service district or general commercial use).
Site plan approval was granted to Rocky and Vanessa Flanagan, who requested approval for a PUD site plan for a four-unit townhouse development totaling 4,696 square feet at 609 Whitthorne St.
Another site plan was approved for East Cedar Street Apartments, an 11-unit complex, with each unit being approximately 600 square feet. Owners are Joe Lambert and Bobby Sanders.
Lambert and Sanders had another site plan approved -- a 1,456 square foot commercial unit to be located at the southeast corner of Tillman Street and Morton Street, to be used as a CPA office.
In other action:
* A site plan requested by David Bradford for a six-unit apartment complex was approved, with each unit being 600 square feet, at the northeast corner of East Depot Street and Locust Street.
* A site plan for K & L Investments was approved for a 4,090 square foot commercial building at 801 Union St.
* A master grading and drainage plan was approved for Lee Adcock for a 30,000 square foot warehouse on Quintec Road.
* A grading revision and the final plat were approved for Creekview Villas, formerly called Creekside Condominiums, consisting of 28 units at the northeast intersection of South Cannon Boulevard and Flat Creek.
* Final plat revisions were also approved for lots 3-11 of West Side Acres Subdivision.
* Amendments to the city's zoning ordinance were approved that would provide for density requirements and conservation subdivision requirements for Planned Residential Developments.

I thought Calsonic was using the old Krogers building for storing some of it's parts. I know one time their was a company I believe from out of town that was using the building to sell furniture, their was racks with automobile parts in it that look like the ones from Calsonic.
More and more apartments, and more and more jobs that go temp-to-hire (Low income), more and more homes for sale, more and more job lay-offs, more and more population, less and less work....
This just do not pan out. (IMO)
