Nearly everything taken from emptied home

Thursday, September 4, 2008

Whoever broke into a Midland Road home allegedly took everything including the kitchen sink -- and much more, the Bedford County Sheriff's Department reports.

The home's landlord arrived Tuesday morning to find all the home's doors, light fixtures, carpet, living room's hardwood floor, kitchen cabinets, stove, refrigerator, dishwasher and a bathtub were gone, Deputy Jason Freeman said.

The loss was estimated at $40,000, Freeman said.

* Drills, nail guns, a cable pancake compressor and two spools of wire were stolen from the old Harris High School building, Elm Street, over the weekend, Shelbyville police said.

An antique soft drink machine and Pac-Man arcade game were vandalized and paint smeared on the gym's floor and walls, the report said.

* Five gold chains and eight rings, with an estimated total value of approximately $3,000, and $2,027 in cash were stolen from a Ritch Lane home between 7:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

* A cell phone accidentally left on the magazine rack at Kroger, North Main Street, was stolen Monday night, police were told.

Another customer told police a book bag containing medicine and personal papers was stolen from her car in the Kroger parking lot Tuesday.

Drug charge

Crack cocaine was found in a car after a traffic stop Tuesday night, police said.

William Darrell Holt, 28, Christopher Court, was charged after police noticed he allegedly placed his hand in a pocket of his clothing while exiting the vehicle at an officer's request.

Holt allegedly admitted ownership of seven grams of crack cocaine and a crack pipe in a cigarette container within the pocket, police said.

Drug dog Remy alerted police to another pipe under the seat, the report said.

Holt was charged with possession of schedule II drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and released on $3,000 bond, Bedford County Jail records said.

The car's driver, who was not charged, was stopped after allegedly crossing double yellow lines at the Shaw Road-Jennings Lane intersection, police said.

in response to the alleged drug charges on Mr. Holt, he willing handed the officer the container without having to be serched or alerted upon by the drug dog. He then admitted that it was his for his own personal use not for resale as stated in the blotter. Written by William Darrel Holt
