Early start helps Viqueens win

Community opened up a three-goal advantage in the first half and held on for a 3-1 victory over host Cornersville in a District 11-A/AA match on Thursday.

Viqueen freshman Allyse Reese scored the first goal of the game with a ricochet off the far goal post four minutes in after dribbling an opposing defender. About 10 minutes later, Reese scored again off of a assist from fellow forward Kristen Simmons. Simmons then made it 3-0 by halftime with a goal of her own.

The Lady Bulldogs withstood an onslaught of shots in the second half to hold Community scoreless. Cornersville's Paige Holder found the back of the net halfway through the second half but it was too little, too late.

Cascade 6, Boyd Christian 3: In McMinnville, Mary Saylor filled up the twine with a goal from the top of the box to get the Lady Champions on top early and they held on late for an 11-A/AA win. Ashley Bledsoe took an assist from Laura Jett to net one of her two first-half goals.

In the second half, Bledsoe returned a favor and assisted a Jett score. Kathleen Lohay then assisted Bledsoe for a goal. Lastly, Jett tallied her second net-thinner unassisted.

Cassie Wanamaker had two goals for Boyd Christian. Katie Gooden also scored.

Angel McBryant saved two balls at keeper for Cascade. Kayla Carden prevented a score on a penalty kick. Jolene Peters also got some goalie time in and contributed a save.

Lady Bronco keeper Leah Walker managed 34 saves.

Cascade coach Patricia Petty was pleased to get all 25 players on the roster some playing time.

The Lady Champs hit the road for another district match on Tuesday at Marshall County.

Webb Middle 6, South Lincoln 0: The Lady Feet streaked to victory as they got a goal apiece from Karly Grissom, McKenna Hoover, Madeline Castellon, Rachel Howell, Ashley Wren and Emilee Gibson. Goalie Hannah Waggoner got her paws on two balls.

Webb battles Bedford County rival Liberty Middle in Bell Buckle on Monday at 4:30.
