Woman's Club members 'fall' into fashion

Thursday, September 11, 2008

Finding a parking place proved to be quite challenging at Riverbend Country Club as more than 130 Shelbyville women arrived just before lunch Wednesday for the meeting of Shelbyville Woman's Club.

The club's September meeting is always a popular one, and this year was no exception as club members gathered to see the latest fall trends in fashion.

"Today, you're in for a real treat," said Susan McGee, as she welcomed guest speaker Jennifer Jordan to the podium. "Two of my favorite things are pretty fall weather and clothes."

Jordan, owner of J. Jordan boutique in Shelbyville, opened her annual fashion show by displaying her personal purse, which displayed warm brown colors in a cow print, one of the season's hottest trends.

A fashion show included 11 local women: Nakai Waynick, Angelica Wortham, Donna Sepull, Trena Little, Peggy Orrell, Darlene Sudberry, Janie Smithson, Martha Deason, Nancy June Brandon, Brenda Skelton and Kimberly English.

"Soft and comfortable is in for fall," Jordan said. "Fashion should be modern, easy and understandable."

Animal prints continue to be hot, and you'll also see a lot of cropped jackets, three-quarter length jackets and shirts, layers, chunky sweaters and wide leg pants, as well as straight leg pants, said Jordan.

"No matter what your shape is, there is a style (in pants) for you," she said.

Textures are big this season, as are bold colors of green, purple amber, and black and white that is worn with blue or red.

Jordan concluded the lighthearted meeting by stating it was one of the favorite fashion shows that she had put together and thanking the club for inviting her to share the latest trends.

Special thanks

Club president Sally McReynolds thanked several members for making the September meeting possible: Pat Hyland (decorations), Carolyn Jones and Bonnye Catron (place cards), Cecilia Dougan (devotional), Wilma Beam (reservations) and Pat Hastings and Louise McCarter (hospitality).

WHAT'S NEXT

The next Shelbyville Woman's Club meeting will be Oct. 8. The program will be on King's Museum and Garland King.

Well well, look at that Martha Deason. Still looking as young and good as she did when she worked at the bank. She is the female version of Dick Clark.Always has a smile no matter what. And always there to give you a helping hand.

As the saying goes Martha "Knock Them Out At the show Martha."Its so nice seeing that you have not changed.
