Firefighters from Bedford County were called to assist in battling a blaze that completely destroyed Eagleville Grocery early Tuesday morning.

The fire started around 12:30 a.m. and seven other fire districts were involved in fighting the blaze, including units from Bedford County, Eagleville fire chief David Martin said.

At first, Eagleville and Rockvale fought the fire, but other districts were called in, such as Williamson County, Martin said.

The snorkel trucks contributed by Bedford and Williamson counties "really helped to contain this fire," Martin said.

The chief added that as large as the fire was, all the adjoining structures were in danger.

Martin guessed the fire was electrical in nature and said the entire building was fully involved at both ends when firefighters arrived. The chief called the fire "a major tragedy" for the small community. He also said the building was a total loss.
