Page gets back at Cascade

Wednesday, September 17, 2008

A year ago Cascade was able to contain Page stud Kate Maguigan and sneak out of Franklin with a key 2-1 win. On Tuesday afternoon, Maguigan and the Lady Patriots got their revenge by shocking the Lady Champions with a 5-1 victory.

The game was tightly-contested for nearly all of the first half until Maguigan blasted a ball off the face Cascade goalkeeper Angel McBryant for the game's first score with 4:30 left before halftime. Barely more than a minute later, Jessica McCormick took an assist from Maguigan to put Page (6-1, 3-0) up 2-0.

Lady Champion coach Patricia Petty was pleased with how her team played in the opening 25 minutes and noted how her team "really was winning in terms of possession and number of shots on goal."

"What killed us was that our shots didn't go in the goal," said Petty, whose team had been making good on a high percentage of shots in recent matches.

Maguigan struck again in the 43rd minute with a goal off a long-range free kick when a ball slid through the gloves of McBryant. Exactly two minutes later, Maguigan added the finishing touches to her hat trick.

Ashley Bledsoe got Cascade (3-2, 3-1) on the board in the 71st minute. Morgan Pennington gave the match its final margin by scoring in stoppage time.

"The defense worked really hard," Petty said. "Aimee Taylor is just incredible in my opinion. She's everywhere and every single time she touches the ball it moves with power and it's going to a target, it's not just being kicked.

"Chelsea Johnson, Demi Pendleton and Shelby Nelson just gave their all and worked awfully hard and needed more support from the midfield. They had to work way too hard. We've got a lot of work to do on our midfield."

Things don't get easier for Cascade in their next match, which is a district game at Spring Hill on Thursday.

Good grief, give the guy a break! It is also used in "sports" to define a dominant player. It may be "slang", but most athletes and sports fans understand the terminology well enough to not confuse the female with a four-legged animal.

In what sports world would a female highschool athlete be referred to as a MALE horse for breeding purposes?

If you know your soccer, she's a STRIKER.
