Pampered animals star at Pet Day

The 2008 Celebration Pet Day, held Saturday at Bedford County Agriculture and Education Center, was an opportunity for pet owners and lovers from all over Bedford County to come together as a group to celebrate pets of all kinds.

Parrots, goats, and dogs were just some of the many animals that attended with their owners.

The day's highlights included a performance by The Comedy Canines as well as a pet show with a variety of categories.

The Comedy Canines, from Pigeon Forge, provided laughs as trainer/owner Dawn Goehring directed them in performing tricks, while her husband, Doug, assisted.

"They're really like our kids ... a majority of them sleep with us," said Dawn Goehring.

Pet owners and organizations had booths set up around the arena area promoting everything from homemade dog treats to pet adoption, with one example of adoption being the Schnauzer Love Rescue, Inc., booth.

Animals of many different species -- and colors -- participated in the events.

Andrea Teal, owner of Teal's Top Knots Grooming Salon in Manchester, brought along her blue-dyed poodle named Jake.

Getting Jake the right color of blue was not as difficult as one might think, according to Teal.

"All we used were dog dyes and basic Halloween spray," said Teal.
